Session Summary: Pack Registry Phase 3 - Enhanced Installation Process

Objectives Achieved

Phase 3 successfully enhanced the pack installation system with:

  1. Installation metadata tracking (database table + repository)
  2. Pack storage management with versioning
  3. Checksum generation CLI command
  4. Enhanced error handling (I/O error type)
  5. Integrity verification utilities

Key Deliverables

1. Database Schema

  • Migration: 20260122000001_pack_installation_metadata.sql
  • Table: pack_installation (18 columns)
  • Tracks: source, checksum, timestamp, user, method, storage path

2. Installation Metadata System

  • Model: PackInstallation + CreatePackInstallation
  • Repository: PackInstallationRepository (195 lines)
  • Full CRUD operations with specialized queries

3. Storage Management

  • Module: crates/common/src/pack_registry/storage.rs (394 lines)

    3. Move to permanent versioned storage
    4. Calculate checksum
    5. Store installation metadata
    6. Cleanup temp files

6. Error Handling

  • Added: Error::Io variant to common error enum
  • Helper: Error::io() constructor
  • Integration: API middleware handles I/O errors

Note: All Phase 3 code compiles successfully. Testing is the next priority.


Build Status

Successful compilation:

  • attune-common - No errors
  • attune-api - No errors (2 minor warnings about unused variables)
  • attune-cli - No errors (4 minor warnings)

Pre-existing issue:

  • attune-sensor - Missing webhook fields (unrelated to Phase 3)

Dependencies Added

  • walkdir = "2.4" - Recursive directory traversal for checksum calculation

Security Enhancements

  1. Tamper Detection: Directory checksums detect unauthorized modifications
  2. Audit Trail: Complete installation provenance in database
  3. Verification: Checksum validation ensures pack integrity
  4. User Attribution: Tracks who installed each pack

Lessons Learned
