# Work Summary: OpenAPI Specification Completion

## Objective

Complete the OpenAPI specification for the Attune API by annotating all remaining endpoints with `utoipa::path` attributes, enabling comprehensive interactive documentation via Swagger UI.

## Work Completed

### 1. Route Handler Annotations

Added `#[utoipa::path]` attributes to all API route handlers across multiple modules:

#### Rules Module (`routes/rules.rs`)
- ✅ Annotated 11 endpoints:
  - List all rules (with pagination)
  - List enabled rules
  - List rules by pack/action/trigger
  - Get rule by reference or ID
  - Create, update, delete rules
  - Enable/disable rules

#### Triggers Module (`routes/triggers.rs`)
- ✅ Annotated 10 trigger endpoints:
  - List all/enabled triggers
  - List triggers by pack
  - Get trigger by reference or ID
  - Create, update, delete triggers
  - Enable/disable triggers

- ✅ Annotated 11 sensor endpoints:
  - List all/enabled sensors
  - List sensors by pack or trigger
  - Get sensor by reference or ID
  - Create, update, delete sensors
  - Enable/disable sensors

#### Events Module (`routes/events.rs`)
- ✅ Annotated 2 event endpoints:
  - List events with filters
  - Get event by ID

- ✅ Annotated 2 enforcement endpoints:
  - List enforcements with filters
  - Get enforcement by ID

#### Inquiries Module (`routes/inquiries.rs`)
- ✅ Annotated 8 endpoints:
  - List inquiries with filters
  - Get inquiry by ID
  - List inquiries by status or execution
  - Create, update, delete inquiries
  - Respond to inquiry (human-in-the-loop)

#### Executions Module (`routes/executions.rs`)
- ✅ Added missing annotations for 3 endpoints:
  - List executions by status
  - List executions by enforcement
  - Get execution statistics

### 2. DTO Improvements

#### Fixed Query Parameters
- ✅ Added `IntoParams` derive to `EnforcementQueryParams`
- ✅ Added parameter examples and descriptions
- ✅ Verified all query param DTOs have proper traits

### 3. OpenAPI Module Updates

#### Updated `openapi.rs`
- ✅ Added all 74 endpoints to paths section
- ✅ Added all response/request DTOs to schemas
- ✅ Removed query param types from schemas (they use IntoParams, not ToSchema)
- ✅ Organized imports and cleaned up unused dependencies

## Technical Notes

### Key Decisions

1. **Query Parameters**: Used `IntoParams` trait instead of `ToSchema` for query parameter DTOs, as they don't need to be in the schema registry
2. **Security**: JWT Bearer auth properly configured and referenced on all protected endpoints
3. **Organization**: Endpoints grouped by logical tags for better navigation
4. **Examples**: All DTOs include example values for better understanding

### Challenges Solved

1. **Trait Bounds**: Initially tried to add query params to schemas section, but they only need `IntoParams`, not `ToSchema`
2. **Missing Derives**: EnforcementQueryParams was missing `IntoParams` derive - added with proper parameter documentation
3. **Import Cleanup**: Removed unused imports after refactoring schema section

## Conclusion

The OpenAPI specification is now **100% complete** for all existing API endpoints. The Attune API now provides:

- ✅ 50+ documented DTO schemas
- ✅ Interactive Swagger UI documentation
- ✅ Machine-readable OpenAPI 3.0 specification
- ✅ JWT authentication integration
